Chianti Classico Collection: the fragrant breath of the new 2024 vintage

There are vintages that flow smoothly like a summer sip.

And there are vintages that test the land, the vines, and the hands of man.

The 2024 Chianti Classico belongs to the second category.

A complex, irregular, and at times capricious vintage. Rain, sudden changes, and climatic tensions that required attention, patience, and the ability to listen.

Yet, this is where Sangiovese returns to teach us that, when guided by skilled hands, even the most difficult seasons can produce brilliant wines.

Grace after hard work

In the glass, the new vintage surprises.

Not for its power, but for its dynamic grace.

The wines are more agile, lively, with a vivid freshness and drinkability that invites you to take another sip. But above all, what strikes you is the aromatic dimension: a harvest that translates into clear, diffuse, often floral aromas in the glass.

Many flowers.

Violet, rose, iris, wisteria.

A Chianti Classico that seems to have transformed seasonal difficulties into olfactory precision.

Once again, Sangiovese demonstrates its resilient nature: sensitive but tenacious, capable of reacting to inclement weather with wines that seek not volume, but expressiveness.

It is a vintage that does not raise its voice.

But it makes itself heard.

Seven glasses that left their mark

In the great mosaic tasted, some wines left a longer echo.

Not for their muscle or concentration, but for their harmony, vibrancy, and personality.

Here are seven interpretations that attracted me the most.

Castello di Querceto – UGA Greve

A broad, almost airy nose: wisteria, subtle resins, and a hint of noble woods.

The palate is satisfying, full of composed energy, with a citrusy twist reminiscent of grapefruit that elegantly lengthens the finish.

Viticcio – UGA Montefioralle

Red fruit and small berries intertwine with an intriguing peppery spiciness.

In the mouth it is delicious, immediate, almost carnal: a wine that does not ask permission but goes straight for the throat.

Molino di Grace – UGA Panzano

Violets and cranberries set the scene, followed by fresh mint that lightens the picture.

The palate is flavorful, dynamic, with hints of orange and plum that increase its depth and momentum.

Santedame – UGA Castellina

Delicate floral harmonies that transform into raspberries and crisp wild strawberries.

The palate is savory, lively, crossed by a gustatory tension that continually invites you to take another sip.

Capraia

Ruby red with purple reflections and a citrusy range that spans from cedar to pink grapefruit.

Dry, salty, tense: a Chianti Classico with a marine soul, with a long, savory finish that lingers.

Poggerino – UGA Radda

Clear and vertical violet.

The sip runs fast but does not escape: dynamic, precise, persistent. A wine that plays on the balance between energy and finesse.

San Giusto a Rentennano – UGA Gaiole

Ripe cherry and elegant floral notes.

Full and fresh on the palate, with noticeable but integrated tannins. A Sangiovese that combines depth and composure without ever losing momentum.

The Chianti Classico to come

The feeling, coming out of the tasting, is clear: Chianti Classico is redefining its balance.

Less focus on mass.

More focus on aroma.

More territorial precision.

2024 is not a muscular vintage.

It is an expressive vintage.

And perhaps for this very reason, it is able to convey the face of contemporary Sangiovese with greater sincerity.

A face made of flowers in the glass, tension in the sip, and an increasingly clear identity.

Because in the end, even in the most difficult seasons, Chianti Classico always finds a way to remind us of one thing: Sangiovese does not seek perfection.

It seeks truth.

And when it finds it, you can feel it.
