Palazzo Giustiniani hosts the conference “Free from drugs, free from fear”
An afternoon to talk about prevention, awareness, and rebirth
On Monday, October 20, 2025, from 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Sala Zuccari in Palazzo Giustiniani (Senate of the Republic, Via della Dogana Vecchia 29 – Rome) will be the venue for a meeting dedicated to one of the most urgent and sensitive challenges of our time: addiction.
The conference, entitled “Free from drugs, free from fears – Overcoming all forms of addiction”, is an initiative of Senator Maurizio Gasparri, in collaboration with the associations “Scelgo la Vita” and “Italia Protagonista”.
An afternoon of discussion, reflection, and testimonials to look beyond prejudice and give a voice to those who struggle every day with addiction, from substances to compulsive behaviors, to new emerging forms linked to digital technology and psychological distress.
The goal is clear: to promote awareness, prevention, and concrete paths to recovery and social reintegration, bringing together institutions, experts, professionals, and those who have experienced firsthand the pain of addiction and stigma.
The first panel, “No to Drugs,” will be moderated by journalist Emma Evangelista and will feature Alfredo Mantovano, Undersecretary to the Prime Minister with responsibility for combating drug use, Giampaolo Nicolasi (Comunità Incontro), Don Antonio Coluccia, Maurizio Gasparri, Luisa Regimenti (Councilor for Security of the Lazio Region), and Alessandra Arachi, journalist and author of the book “Lunatica.”
This will be followed by the second panel, “Towards Independence,” moderated by Lucia Licciardi, which will focus on the role of families, institutions, and civil society. Speakers will include Minister Eugenia Roccella, Giuseppe Mammana (Director of ACuDiPe), Senator Mario Occhiuto, Maurizio Gasparri, and psychologist Tamara Collu.
The third panel, “New and Old Addictions,” moderated by Ida Molaro, will close the proceedings, focusing on the new risks and educational challenges of the present. Participants will include Antonio Affinita (Moige), Enza Colagrosso (TEME), Federico Tonioni (Policlinico Gemelli), Francesco Innocenzi (Forza Italia Giovani), and Roberto Cafiso (professor of Addiction Psychopathology).
The institutional greetings will be given by Renato Manzini, president of the Fondazione Italia Protagonista.
