Dentro ciò che non vediamo: La fabbrica della carne arriva in libreria

Ci sono libri che informano.
Altri che disturbano.
E poi ci sono quelli che — come scrive il filosofo Peter Singer«potrebbero cambiarvi la vita».

La fabbrica della carne (The Meat Factory), the first book by Animal Equality Italia, published by il Millimetro, was not written to be reassuring. It was written to open a door.

A door that, out of habit or choice, almost always remains closed. Behind it

.

The invisible side of food

Presented on February 13 at the Auditorium of Radio Popolare in Milan, the book takes the reader on a journey into the most inaccessible areas of the food industry: intensive farms and slaughterhouses. Places far removed from the tidy shelves of supermarkets and the reassuring narratives of marketing.

Here, the international organization Animal Equality recounts what it has seen firsthand: not through opinions, but through years of investigations, images, data, and testimonies.

It is not just the story of animals.

It is also the story of those who have chosen to go where no one looks.

Our vision is of a world where all animals are protected and respected.

Animal Equality is an international organization that works with civil society, governments, and companies to end cruelty to animals raised for food.

The foreword by Peter Singer, professor emeritus of bioethics at Princeton University and author of Animal Liberation, frames the profound meaning of the book:

“This book addresses one of the most important ethical issues of our time. It speaks of injustice on an immense scale. Most Italians are complicit in this injustice, even if they may not realize it.”

A sentence that does not accuse, but invites us to question ourselves.

Because the heart of the book is not denunciation for its own sake, but awareness.

Stories of those who have seen

Founded in 2006 by Sharon Núñez, Javier Moreno, and Jose Valle, and now active in eight countries, Animal Equality has built up a comprehensive investigative work over the years.

“The Meat Factorycollects the experiences of investigators and activists who have documented the lives of hundreds of thousands of animals in over a thousand farms and slaughterhouses around the world.

Not just images, but stories: of infiltration, pressure, and resistance.

Of battles fought against enormous systems, where animals become numbers and suffering an accepted side effect.

Making the hidden visible

As Matteo Cupi, executive director of Animal Equality Italia, explains, the goal is as simple as it is radical: to make visible what normally remains invisible.

To reveal the mechanisms that transform living beings into products.

To show what lies behind a steak or a glass of milk.

Not to impose choices, but to finally make them conscious.

A reportage of our time

Because the relationship between humans, consumption, and animal life is one of the central moral issues of our time.

Gianluca Cherubini, editorial director of the publishing house Il Millimetro, which specializes in publishing reportage and investigations on major Italian and international current affairs, states:

“We are very proud to publish Animal Equality’s first book, a project we strongly believe in and which is in line with our publishing house’s journalistic principles.”

The book is available from today in selected bookstores and on major online sales channels. You can purchase it and find more information at this link: https://ae.onl/libro.

A book that questions

The Meat Factory does not offer simple answers. It does not ask for immediate adherence.

It asks for something more difficult: to look.

And, after looking, to decide.

Animal Equality is an international organization that works with society, governments, and companies to end cruelty to farm animals. Animal Equality has offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and India.
