Mantellassi,a century of Tuscan elegance: a story of family, craftsmanship, and vision

There are companies that stand the test of time. And then there are companies that, as they stand the test of time, help to shape it.

In 2026, Mantellassi will celebrate its 100th anniversary. This milestone goes far beyond the realm of business and represents an important chapter in the history of Tuscan manufacturing. Founded in 1926 in the Pistoia area, the company has grown while maintaining a strong connection to the culture of craftsmanship that has made Tuscany an international leader in design and high-quality furniture.

Among those in attendance were the newly elected Mayor of Pistoia, Giovanni Capecchi, and the Regional Undersecretary of Tuscany, Bernard Dika, as well as Senator Manuel Vescovi and the Mayor of Quarrata.

A grand celebration, with many guests, to commemorate but also to honor the value of tradition and the all-Italian spirit.

That spirit we must convey to the world and for which we are the standard-bearers— as Roberta says. And as all the speakers reiterated.

A century ago, it all began with a passion for wood, the art of upholstery, and craftsmanship. Since then, generations of artisans, designers, and entrepreneurs have helped forge a distinctive identity, built on a balance that is not always easy to achieve: preserving tradition while, at the same time, innovating.

The history of Mantellassi largely coincides with that of the family that bears its name. Today, the company is led by the fifth generation, a concrete testament to a continuity that is rare in the contemporary economic landscape. A continuity that has not translated into stagnation, but into the ability to constantly reinterpret its wealth of knowledge to meet the needs of ever-evolving markets.

Over the decades, the company has weathered wars, reconstruction, economic crises, and global transformations. It has witnessed changes in the way people live, in interior aesthetics, and in customer expectations. Yet some principles have remained unchanged: the quality of materials, attention to detail, the value of craftsmanship, and a focus on customization. Even today, every project arises from the convergence of artisanal skills, design, and aesthetic research.

In a world dominated by standardized production, Mantellassi continues to represent a production model deeply rooted in the local territory. Pistoia and Tuscany are not only the place where the company was founded, but the cultural source from which it draws inspiration.

Artistic traditions, woodworking, a focus on beauty, and the pursuit of excellence still form the DNA of the company today.

Roberta Mantellassi retraced the history of the family business with the large crowd in attendance at the event.

The international reach achieved over the years has not weakened this bond. On the contrary, it has made it possible to export a certain vision of Made in Italy: not merely a commercial brand, but a synthesis of expertise, creativity, and culture. From Tuscany to international markets, Mantellassi has built its reputation by carrying forward a tradition that continues to speak a contemporary language.

Century-old companies serve a purpose that goes beyond the economy. They preserve memory, pass on skills, and represent a collective heritage for the communities in which they operate. They are living testaments to a region’s ability to generate value over time.

There is, however, one aspect that makes this story even more significant. Behind the milestone of a hundred years lies the face of Roberta Mantellassi, who in recent years has faced one of the most difficult trials life can hold: the passing of her husband Nicola, with whom she had shared not only a long love story but also an entrepreneurial journey built day by day. After that sudden loss, Roberta chose to move forward, taking the helm of the company with determination and courage, supported by her sons Marco, Giulio, and Carlo.

Her story is one of resilience, but above all of continuity. A woman who has transformed pain into a sense of responsibility, keeping a shared vision alive and guiding a new generation into the future of the company. Today, her three children represent the natural continuation of a family tradition that looks ahead without forgetting its roots. In them, we find the experience and values passed down by Nicola and Roberta, along with the enthusiasm and skills needed to face the challenges of tomorrow.

Perhaps this is the true meaning of Mantellassi’s centennial: not merely the longevity of a company, but a family’s ability to transform a personal story into a shared legacy, keeping alive over time what truly matters.

This is why the Mantellassi centennial is not just about a company. It is about the history of a family, a community, and a manufacturing tradition that continues to set Tuscany apart in the world.

To mark the centennial milestone, the company has received recognition from the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, as well as a book co-authored by Roberta herself and Alessandra Maria Abramo, dedicated to the history of the Mantellassi family. This work does more than simply trace the milestones of an extraordinary entrepreneurial journey; it reveals the human side of the company through memories, images, testimonials, and generational transitions.

The book thus becomes a collective narrative, capable of recounting not only the growth of a brand but also the story of a family that has transformed passion, sacrifice, and vision into a shared legacy. A tribute to the past, but above all a tool for passing on to new generations the values that have made a century of excellence possible.

One hundred years after its founding, Mantellassi demonstrates that true luxury is not merely a quality product. It is the ability to build something that stands the test of time, maintaining its identity intact and continuing, generation after generation, to look ahead.
