Mondia has always sought to strike a direct balance between function and identity, without basing its positioning on visibility. Today it returns as Mondia Swiss, in a phase marked by its acquisition by Diffusione Orologi.
It is not just a change of ownership, but a realignment. Adding “Swiss” to the name is not merely a cosmetic gesture. It is a declaration of origin. Mondia was founded in 1935 in Le Locle, in the heart of Swiss watchmaking, by Paul Vermot.
A return to its roots
Throughout its history, Mondia has developed a design language consistent with its positioning. Among its most recognizable features is the Top Second, a seconds-scanning system that has recently regained attention among collectors.
In the 1970s, the alliance with Zenith and Movado marked a phase of broader industrial integration, without, however, erasing the brand’s design identity. Today, under the guidance of Diffusione Orologi, the brand operates with a clearer structure: selective distribution, a developing retail network, and e-commerce conceived as an extension of the physical store.
Production remains focused on essential elements: 316L steel, sapphire crystal, assembly in Switzerland, Ronda and Sellita movements. An approach that stays within the entry-level range of Swiss Made, without attempting to stray beyond its boundaries.
Supersuisso
Supersuisso is the most direct expression of this phase. A watch built on essential elements, without any superfluous embellishments. It does not seek to stand out through technical complexity or stylistic statements. It focuses on proportions, materials, and construction. This is where its coherence lies.
The name was already in use by Mondia in the late 1950s and now returns in a limited edition of 90 pieces. The 38-mm cushion-shaped case in 316L stainless steel echoes the historic proportions inspired by the Acquaflex model.
The green sunburst gradient dial reacts to light in a controlled manner, without pronounced effects. The hour markers are geometric, with a double marker at 12 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The dates 1935–2025 link the brand’s founding and anniversary without becoming a dominant feature. The integrated steel bracelet, with 11-link chains and a butterfly clasp, follows the case without seeking to take center stage.
Inside, a manual-winding Unitas 6325 caliber. A predictable choice, but consistent with the overall approach. The Supersuisso does not introduce a new design language. It builds upon the existing one, without forcing it.
And it is precisely in this continuity, rather than in the idea of novelty, that the meaning of the project is measured.
