Plunhof gets a makeover: sustainable luxury in the heart of the Ridnaun Valley

Plunhof Heimat der Generationen 132

After a major and impressive restyling, the Plunhof – a few kilometers from Vipiteno – returns with a new, elegant, and bright look, without ever losing its deep connection to its alpine soul. A KlimaHaus-certified eco-hotel, it has for years embraced a concept of well-being that interacts with nature: raw materials sourced from a very short supply chain, constant use of alternative energy sources, and an idea of luxury that stems from respect for the local area.

The rooms and suites, each one different from the other, reflect a harmonious balance of natural materials, design details, and traditional inspirations. These spaces become small havens of light and silence, where you can envelop yourself in the warmth of wood and the tranquility of the Alpine winter.

But the Plunhof is not just about relaxation: it is an invitation to experience the mountains in an active and mindful way. Snowshoeing through the woods, skiing down the slopes of the Racines-Giovo ski area, cross-country skiing on impeccable trails, or fat bike tours: every day brings with it a new way to breathe in winter.

And as Christmas approaches, the atmosphere becomes even more special: the Vipiteno Christmas market—with its bells, alpine choirs, and the scent of mulled wine—is just a few minutes from the hotel.

A completely renovated hotel

The Plunhof, beloved by the Volgger family, is now an ideal retreat for those seeking authentic alpine charm, deep relaxation, and outdoor adventures. The 28 new suites welcome guests with warm wooden floors and the natural elegance of local gneiss. Each suite offers an exclusive treat: a private hot tub on the terrace, perfect for soaking while the snow falls silently and the starry sky provides the backdrop.

At the heart of the winter experience is the panoramic Sky Pool “Fonte Celeste”: 25 meters suspended between the snow-capped peaks, reserved for adult guests. A place where the warmth of the water meets the silence of winter. Next to it is the new relaxation area “Silenzio delle Vette” and the sauna-event “Cortile di Luce,” which invites natural light to enter and transform the environment.

The restaurant, bar with panoramic terrace, and underground garage have also been renovated: each room now has a dedicated parking space, for an even more comfortable and carefree stay.

The Spa: among ancient stones and forest scents

The Adults Only areas expand the spaces dedicated to tranquility and regeneration. The Minera Acqua & Spa, covering 4,000 square meters, is a sensory journey that pays homage to the valley’s mining history: the scents of mountain pine, spruce, and larch accompany mining saunas up to 100°C, a Turkish bath, a bio sauna, an infrared sauna, and a large relaxation area with views of the peaks.

The experience is completed by Kneipp pools, a fascinating cave area with a mining lake and a 20-meter indoor pool flanked by a relaxation pool with an outdoor view.

The Aufguss show takes place in the “Miner’s House”: 45 square meters of warmth, living wood, and a breathtaking view beyond the mirrored glass. Outside, the “Miner’s Garden” offers a nudist area to cool off after the sauna.

The treatments by Biocosmetics Dottor Spiller and QMS Medicosmetics transform every ritual into an authentic alpine experience: such as the “Primordial Ritual” with silver quartzite, which combines the power of stones with herbs and resins from the Aurina Valley.

Winter with taste and style

The renovated restaurant welcomes guests with intimate niches and contemporary design. Here, the cuisine becomes a journey through local flavors: zero-kilometer ingredients, recipes that respect tradition, and a wide and carefully selected buffet.

The bar with terrace, now on the first floor, is the ideal place for a glass of wine or a cocktail while admiring the snow-covered landscape. The warm and convivial lounge invites you to play chess, billiards, and enjoy leisurely conversation.

A family dream

The Plunhof is much more than a hotel: it is a family story that began in the 1970s with Leopold Volgger’s dream. Together with his wife Paola and their eight children, Leopold transformed a simple guesthouse into a place where tradition and hospitality intertwine with the enchantment of the Dolomites.

After his death in 2002, the Volgger family continued to carry on the project with love and vision, transforming it into a benchmark for Alpine hospitality. Today, the Plunhof has 95 rooms and suites, all characterized by the warmth of local wood and the energy of stone.

Val Ridanna: winter finds another rhythm

Small, authentic, and quiet: Val Ridanna is a hidden gem in the Breonie Alps. It offers winter experiences for everyone: snowshoeing, evening sledding, and days of skiing amid breathtaking views.

The Plunhof is located a few steps from the cable car to Racines-Giovo (2,150 m), a ski area with 25 km of slopes and a fun park for snowboarders. Three toboggan runs and 50 km of cross-country skiing trails complete the offer.

Monte Cavallo and Ladurns are perfect for families and beginners. And for those who want to start skiing in complete tranquility, the small Gasse lift—right in front of the hotel—is free for guests.

Christmas of Bells

From November 28, 2025, to January 6, 2026, Vipiteno lights up with the “Christmas of Bells”: hand-carved nativity scenes, mulled wine, traditional sweets, and the unmistakable sound of the bells of the Torre delle Dodici. An atmosphere that captivates young and old alike.
