Assaggi d’autore: Arezzo Celebrates Contemporary Tuscan Cuisine

Twenty chefs, renowned wineries, and a culinary journey through the heart of the city: on August 26, Via Guido Monaco will become the stage for the first edition of “Assaggi d’autore.”

Arezzo is preparing to host a new event dedicated to Tuscan culinary culture.

On Wednesday, August 26, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Via Guido Monaco will host the first edition of “Assaggi d’autore”, a festival bringing together twenty chefs from across the region, invited to showcase the local terroir through a simple and contemporary format: the “one bite”.

A single bite, therefore, designed to encapsulate technique, creativity, ingredients, and identity. Each chef will present their own interpretation of Tuscan cuisine, creating a culinary journey that brings tradition, experimentation, and new influences into dialogue.

The initiative, promoted by Italian Taste Lodovichi in collaboration with Unione Regionale Cuochi Toscani (Pictured: Chef Daniele Cornacchia and President Roberto Lodovichi) and Confcommercio, was created with the goal of introducing the public to signature cuisine and, at the same time, showcasing one of the central areas of Arezzo through a widespread event open to the entire city.

For the occasion, Via Guido Monaco will be temporarily closed to traffic on the stretch between the square and the Post Office intersection, transforming into a true open-air culinary journey.

Alongside the chefs, several prominent wineries will also take center stage: Agricola San Felice, Tenuta Cerro di Montepulciano, Antinori, and Tenuta Sette Ponti, whose wines will pair with the various culinary offerings.

The event, which is free but accessible by invitation only, is sponsored by the City of Arezzo and also involves the Arezzo Chefs Association, the Valdarno Chefs Association, Vetrina Toscana, and AIS Toscana – Arezzo.

Councilmember Francesco Marcantoni highlighted the dual value of the initiative: on the one hand, the opportunity to revitalize and breathe new life into a part of the city that is less frequently the site of major events; on the other, the promotion of a food culture grounded in quality. The influx of tourists during this period also presents an opportunity to strengthen the promotion of the region through one of its most recognizable forms of expression: cuisine.

Along the same lines, Catiuscia Fei, deputy director of Confcommercio Firenze-Arezzo, highlights the role of events capable of combining business promotion, high-quality offerings, and the revitalization of urban spaces, helping to make the city center more vibrant and attractive.

The evening will be preceded by another significant event: the grand opening of the new Lodovichi Bistrot, also located on Via Guido Monaco.

The venue is the result of the experience gained in the industry by brothers Massimo and Roberto Lodovichi and is part of a broader investment project in the area. Open from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., it will offer pastries, coffee, dining, and aperitifs, complementing its culinary offerings with musical and cultural events.

The festival and the new opening thus become two expressions of the same project: to bring renewed attention, foot traffic, and new energy to a strategic part of the city through a warm welcome and the ability to build a network.

“Assaggi d’autore,” as envisioned by Massimo and Roberto Lodovichi, aims to become an event that will continue over the years, experimenting with a new way of telling the story of Tuscan cuisine.

A narrative entrusted not to grand courses, but to the essence of a single taste: a bite capable of surprising and, at the same time, preserving the history of a product, a chef, and a region.

Tuscan cuisine thus continues to tell its story through a rare ability to remain faithful to its roots without sacrificing evolution. A tradition built on ingredients, simplicity, and memory, which today merges with technique and creativity to transform into a contemporary language that is recognizable and deeply rooted in its identity.

Arezzo, for one evening, will thus turn its streets into a shared table, where signature cuisine, wine, business, and culture will come together in the spirit of Tuscan identity.
