TassonArt 2026: The Village of Tassonarla Becomes an Open-Air Museum

Yesterday, Friday, July 31, the fifth edition of TassonArt—the open-air contemporary art exhibition that, through Sunday, August 2, transforms the small town in Lunigiana into an extraordinary open-air exhibition space—was inaugurated in the village of Tassonarla, in the municipality of Tresana.

The theme of the 2026 edition is “Earth. Soul and Matter”, an invitation to reflect on the relationship between human beings, landscape, memory, and identity through works of painting, sculpture, installation, video, and performance.

Curated by Samantha Ghironi, Mattia Lapperier, and Alessio Manfredi and organized by the “Insieme per Tassonarla” Committee,” the event brings together artists from different generations, backgrounds, and artistic languages, creating a direct dialogue between contemporary art, the village’s architecture, and the surrounding nature.

The opening day was inaugurated by the president of the “Insieme per Tassonarla” Committee”, Oriano Valenti, who traced the history of the event, now in its fifth edition. Over the years, the event has brought internationally renowned artists to the picturesque village of Tresano, giving rise to a widespread art exhibition of extraordinary beauty.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was also attended by institutional representatives and distinguished guests: the Mayor of Tresana, Matteo Mastrini, and the municipal administration,Daniele Tarantino Vice President of the Massa City Council, Claudio Novoa Mayor of Mulazzo,Matteo Bertolini Provincial Councilor for Massa,as well as Regional Councilor Gianni Lorenzetti, who supported and facilitated the initiative; Marina Pratici, a writer, essayist, and literary critic, who thanked the President, the Committee, and the exhibiting artists, “who have expressed art at the very highest level,” as well as the residents and friends of Tassonarla “for their hospitality—once again warm and enthusiastic—during a ‘three-day event’ that brought internationally renowned artists to the magnificent village of Tresana, creating a widespread art exhibition of incomparable beauty,” and Emanuela Cordiviola, cultural promoter and cultural promotion.

Great appreciation was also expressed for the artists featured in the exhibition, who were able to interpret the theme “Earth: Soul and Matter” through different artistic languages and sensibilities, transforming Tassonarla into a true “Place of Art, Art of the Place”.

Among the most notable participants is the master Kan Yasuda, an internationally renowned figure in contemporary sculpture, alongside Luciano Massari, Cynthia Sah, and Nicolas Bertoux. Alongside them, the works of Samantha Passaniti, Paolo Migliazza, Augusto Gadea, Seungwan Park, Simone Stuto, Sara Tonello, Federico Severino, Alessandro Ratti, Marta Cornacchia, and Giulia Desogus create an exhibition rich in evocative imagery, in which matter becomes memory, roots, transformation, and the possibility of new connections.

The program continues this evening, Saturday, August 1, at 7:00 p.m., with Walk_in_Shakespeare, a performance directed by Andrea Battistini featuring performers from 365GRADIwishakespeare-Lab Massa. The audience will be guided through the exhibition space on an immersive journey in which words, the body, light, and imagination will enter into dialogue with the artworks and the village’s spaces. Reservations are required for this event.

On Sunday, August 2, TassonArt will conclude with a discussion dedicated to the role of the artist of the future, featuring gallery owner Giovanni Bonelli, ArtsLife director Massimo Mattioli, Luciano Massari, curator Chiara Guidi, and several young artists from the Ponte di Ferro collective.

Ample space is also dedicated to education, with creative workshops for various age groups and a symposium organized by students from the Art High School, which will run throughout the event.

TassonArt thus reaffirms its mission: to bring art out of traditional spaces, make it part of the landscape and the life of the community, and transform Tassonarla into a place of encounter, learning, and experimentation.

Following the opening days, the exhibition will remain open to the public throughout the month of August. Every Friday, starting at 6:15 p.m., visitors can also participate in guided tours led by the curators, by reservation.
