Vetrina Toscana and Unicoop Firenze: a new partnership showcasing the authentic flavors of Tuscany
In Tuscany, food is never just food. It is identity, landscape, and collective memory. It is the aroma of freshly baked unsalted bread, new olive oil drizzled over warm bread, and wine shared during a leisurely dinner amidst hills and medieval villages.
And this is perhaps precisely why the Tuscan food and agricultural heritage continues to captivate not only those who live here, but also travelers from all over the world.
From this idea springs the new memorandum of understanding between Vetrina Toscana and Unicoop Firenze: a collaboration aimed at strengthening the bond between consumers, the local area, and local products, promoting Tuscan food and wine excellence through events, storytelling, and initiatives across the region.
The agreement was presented in the halls of Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati and represents much more than a simple commercial partnership. It is a cultural project that focuses on the short supply chain, food quality, and the promotion of Tuscany through its most authentic flavors.
Food and Wine Tourism: Authenticity Is the New Luxury
In recent years, food tourism has become one of the most profound ways to experience a destination. And Tuscany, from this perspective, continues to hold a unique charm.
It is not just about great wines or iconic products known abroad. The region’s strength lies above all in the variety of its local traditions: small producers, recipes handed down through generations, historic products, and a food culture that continues to maintain a very strong connection to the territory.
More and more travelers are seeking authentic experiences: they want to understand where their food comes from, learn the stories behind the products, and meet the people who make them. They want to experience the region in a slower, more mindful way.
And this is precisely where food and wine tourism becomes one of the most powerful tools for telling the story of contemporary Tuscany.
The Role of Vetrina Toscana
It is precisely on this aspect of identity that Vetrina Toscana focuses—the project of the Tuscany Region dedicated to promoting food and wine tourism, created in collaboration with Unioncamere Toscana under the direction of Toscana Promozione Turistica and with the support of the Fondazione Sistema Toscana.
The goal is simple yet incredibly powerful: to tell the story of Tuscany through its food.
Over the years, the project has become one of the most effective platforms for promoting the region’s culinary identity, involving restaurants, shops, producers, hotels, and businesses connected to the food industry.
A widespread network that highlights not only the big names in food and wine, but also small local businesses and historic producers that are often less well-known.
The Agreement with Unicoop Firenze
The partnership with Unicoop Firenze was established precisely to bring this story even closer to people’s daily lives.
Under the agreement, a joint program of activities will be developed to bring traditional Tuscan products directly to Coop stores through events, tastings, storytelling, informational materials, and campaigns dedicated to the region’s culinary culture.
The project will involve PATs — Traditional Agri-Food Products — alongside the region’s DOP and IGP products of excellence. A network of flavors that represents one of the most important aspects of contemporary Tuscany’s heritage.
And this is no minor detail: today, many tourists come into contact with local culture precisely by shopping in supermarkets during their stay. Even a deli counter or a dedicated shelf can become tools for cultural discovery.
Tuscany and the Short Supply Chain
During the presentation of the agreement, President Eugenio Giani emphasized the strategic importance of the agreement for safeguarding the short supply chain and promoting high-quality, safe food.
Because today, talking about agri-food excellence means not only promoting the final product, but also supporting local businesses, agricultural work, biodiversity, and the economic sustainability of the region.
Unicoop Firenze collaborates with over 800 Tuscan businesses: a widespread network that helps keep alive a local economy made up of historic companies, small producers, and agricultural operations deeply rooted in the region.
The Tuscany that emerges from this project is therefore not merely a gourmet postcard, but a region striving to preserve its culinary heritage while also transforming it into a cultural and tourist asset.
Food as a Cultural Experience
According to Regional Councilor Leonardo Marras, food is now one of the main vehicles for promoting Tuscany to the world.
And indeed, the region’s international success also stems from this rare balance between landscape, culture, and cuisine.
Not just Michelin-starred restaurants or exclusive wine resorts, but also local markets, historic shops, popular recipes, and traditional products. A widespread heritage that continues to define Tuscany’s cultural identity.
Eating Tuscan means coming into contact with a collective history made up of the countryside, family traditions, craftsmanship, and memory.
A new narrative of contemporary Tuscany
The new agreement between Vetrina Toscana and Unicoop Firenze aims to transform this richness into a narrative that is even more accessible, contemporary, and shared.
Because gastronomic culture does not live solely in major events or signature restaurants. It also lives in everyday gestures: choosing a local product, reading the label of a Tuscan olive oil, discovering the history of a local wine or cheese.
After all, it is precisely this authenticity that makes Tuscany one of the most beloved destinations in the world.
And perhaps the secret lies entirely here: in Tuscany, food is never just something to consume.
It is a way of experiencing the region.
