According to the Furrows Theory, it could be the synchronic reactivation of very deep archetypes, codified thousands of years earlier by previous, perhaps much more advanced civilizations. Axial religions do not arise out of nowhere.

They are cultural furrows that are reignited.

Gods, lost civilizations, and imprinted information

Universal myths speak of:

  • beings “who came from above,”
  • bearers of advanced knowledge,
  • builders of cities,
  • teachers of mathematics, agriculture, astronomy, and architecture.

These archetypes are identical in cultures separated by oceans and millennia. The most parsimonious interpretation (in the Ockhamian sense) is not that all cultures invented the same story, but that they preserve the distorted memory of a real encounter. The Furrows Theory offers a precise language here: the gods are not necessarily “divine,” but informational imprints of an enormous gradient of complexity between two civilizations (one high-tech, one low-tech). Just as today, an Aboriginal Tasmanian and an ISS astronaut share the planet but not the same level of cognitive furrows.
