Itineraries, theater, games, workshops, night tours, and summer camp: the Museum of the History of Bergamo opens 2026 with a wide-ranging program that transforms the city’s symbolic places into spaces for storytelling, participation, and discovery.
A museum that does not just preserve memory, but stages it, explores it, and shares it. In 2026, the Bergamo History Museum renews its annual calendar of activities, offering a program that accompanies the public throughout the year and enlivens the museum’s locations—from the Convent of San Francesco to the Rocca, from the Campanone to the Donizetti Museum, from the Torre dei Caduti to the Venetian Walls— in a continuous dialogue with the city.
The new program is structured around four now-iconic events: Si alzi il sipario! (Raise the Curtain!), Famiglie in Museo (Families at the Museum), By Night, and activities dedicated to the Walls of Bergamo. Alongside the most popular formats, there are new proposals and special events that allow visitors to access spaces that are usually closed or to observe the museum’s heritage from new perspectives.
The museum year will open with Si alzi il sipario! on Sunday, January 18: “Walls or no walls: that is the dilemma”, a theatrical narration set in the 16th century, at the crucial moment of the construction of the Venetian fortress. In collaboration with Teatro d’Acqua Dolce, the story comes to life in the museum’s rooms, bringing back the voices, conflicts, and irony of a decisive moment in the urban and social destiny of Bergamo.
There is also space for children with Famiglie in Museo (Families in the Museum), a program dedicated to children aged 6 to 11 and the adults who accompany them. The first event is scheduled for Sunday, February 8, with “Capitani coraggiosi” (Brave Captains), a workshop at the Museo delle Mura (Museum of the Walls) which, through games, observations, and hands-on activities, recounts the military and symbolic life of the fortifications during a Renaissance siege, transforming learning into a shared experience.
When evening falls, the museum changes its appearance with By Night, an exhibition that invites visitors to discover iconic places outside of normal opening hours. Saturday, April 11, marks the debut of “Campanone by night,” a tour that leads to the Civic Tower amid the tolling of bells, nighttime views, and the charm of a Bergamo suspended between past and present. 2026 also introduces a brand new feature: “Torre dei Caduti by night,” a unique tour dedicated to 20th-century Bergamo, with a privileged view of the illuminated urban skyline.
Completing the program are the activities dedicated to the Venetian Walls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the backbone of the historic city. The first event, “Inside Out: the Walls of Bergamo” (Sunday, March 22), offers an itinerary that leads from the Museum of the Walls to the Cannoniera di San Michele, combining museum narration with direct experience in the field.
Thanks to the contribution of Lions International Bergamo Colleoni and Nepios, the 2026 calendar also introduces the Summer Campus at the Museum “What a spectacle history is!”: two weeks dedicated to children aged 6 to 11, with a format that combines history and theater. Mornings are spent playing games and traveling through time in the museum, while afternoons are devoted to improvisation and acting led by an actor from Teatro d’Acqua Dolce. The theme of the 2026 edition: the Walls of Bergamo.
