The teaser will be online from April 24 on the official website www.napoliraccontanapoli.it and, on the brand’s official social profiles, Instagram and TikTok; while the new stories, divided into six episodes, with a Netflix-inspired format, will be available Every Thursday starting May 1. Conceived by Salvatore and Cristiano Piccirillo, the fourth generation of Masardona’s founding family, the docuseries is produced by the Neapolitan agency Bread and Network and continues the brand’s goal of pursuing, also in a narrative and cultural key, its mission of promoting the territory. Through the telling and sharing of its most iconic product – the Battilocchio®-Masardona delivers not just food, but a piece of Naples, made of history, talent and humanity.

The first season of the project featured historical faces of entrepreneurial and artisanal Naples such as Ferrigno, Mimì alla Ferrovia, E. Marinella, Attanasio, L’Antiquario and Gay-Odin. The second season, however, turns the spotlight on figures from the contemporary pop culture, artists and personalities who tell the story of Naples with new and authentic languages: from the actor Salvatore Esposito, Genny Savastano in Gomorrah, a Antonio Nocera, internationally renowned artist. Since designer and illustrator of projects that combine art, fashion and pop culture, Gianpiero D’Alessandro, to the producer Dat Boi Dee, voice of the Neapolitan urban music scene. From the actress and icon of Neapolitan theater. Marisa Laurito To the singer-songwriter who is a symbol of Neapolitan music in Italy and the world Gigi D’Alessio. Each episode is constructed as a direct, true tale of emotions, visions, and memory. The symbolic gesture of the delivery of the Battilocchio® becomes the common thread of a format intended to pay homage to Naples with authenticity and love. <<Naples tells Naples is an editorial and audiovisual project created to return a truer narrative of the Neapolitan capital, far from the commonplaces and tourist clichés. A tribute to Naples and the extraordinary people who make it what it is.

We are honored to share these stories that are the true essence of our city, far from the usual stereotypes or postcard views. A choral narrative that, as was already the case with the photo book Napoli 24 Carati, created to celebrate the brand’s 80th anniversary, is meant to be an act of love for a city that never ceases to surprise.>>, state the Piccirillo brothers.

THE STORY.

Masardona is a family story that spans four generations, a journey that starts in postwar Naples and goes all the way to major international events. It all began in 1945 with Anna Manfredi, known as the masardona (messenger), paternal grandmother of Enzo Piccirillo. Once a week, armed with a gas burner and a simple kitchen table, she fried pizzas in front of her house, starting a tradition destined to become legend. Picking up her baton were her daughter-in-law Carmela Pintauro and the son Salvatore Piccirillo, Enzo’s parents, who between 1975 and 1980 transformed a warehouse they owned into the current historic location, taking fried pizza from a domestic dimension to a full-fledged business.

With the third generation, that of Enzo Piccirillo, Masardona takes a decisive step toward notoriety: starting in the 2000s, thanks to collaborations with star chefs, Enzo revalues fried pizza, elevating it from a neighborhood specialty to a gastronomic excellence recognized throughout Naples and beyond. The evolution continues with the fourth generation: on March 25, 2018, Enzo’s first son, Salvatore Piccirillo opens its Piazza Vittoria location in Naples’ living room, marking Masardona’s entry into the world of events and catering.

In September 2020, Bro. Cristiano Piccirillo opens its Rome location, introducing Neapolitan baked pizza to the menu alongside the historic fried pizza. With this new generation, the brand established itself on an international scale, bringing its tradition to such prestigious events as the G7 in Naples, Giorgio Armani celebrations, Mercedes events, the Monza Golf Open, Gastronomika in 2014, and the FoodTruck Park in Riyadh in 2023. Today, after eighty years, Masardona continues to represent the excellence of Neapolitan fried pizza, proving that passion, quality and respect for one’s roots can transform a simple fried dough disc into a timeless gastronomic icon.
