IS FROM AGRITURISMO BERGI THE FIRST “WELLNESS APIARY®” OF SICILY. Inaugurated last May 20, on occasion of “World Bee Day,” Agriturismo Bergi, owned by the Di Garbo family is located in Castelbuono (PA) in the heart of the Madonie Park.
It is a date of very special and international significance, namely the “World Bee Day.” which is celebrated annually to raise awareness of the vital role of these precious pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development.
“Apiario del Benessere®” is a registered trademark of the Italian Apitherapy Association created with the aim of popularizing the knowledge and use of apitherapy in Italy through a group of physicians, beekeepers, researchers, wellness practitioners and other interested figures and thus contributing to the growth of knowledge about this ancient practice recently rediscovered also in our country.
Agriturismo Bergi is located in Castelbuono (PA), Sicily, in the heart of the Madonie Park, and was born from the vision and determination of Pasquale Di Garbo and Anna Sottile, who have passed on to their four daughters Daniela, Laura, Floriana and Antonella the culture and wisdom associated with the land. Bergi, which also carries the EU’s “Ecolabel” eco-label, encompasses an area of about 100 hectares once part of the Bergi Feud and is located in the heart of the Madonie Park, a mountainous area known for its exceptional biodiversity.
Beekeeping has always been a defining activity for Bergi’s company, which in 2008, together with other beekeepers, worked with Slow Food to avert the danger of the extinction of the Ape Nera Sicula breed-the only one it breeds-by creating a special Presidium in which each beekeeper would have to ensure the purity of the bee by raising the breed on a minor island (Lampedusa in Bergi’s case) as well as on his own territory.
“Agriturismo Bergi is located in the Madonie Park, an incredible mountainous area for biodiversity” – Di Garbo sisters recount – “here years ago our father took up the business of beekeeping and immediately fell in love with the incredible world of beehive life, truly one of the most fascinating in nature, specializing in honey production and gaining worldwide recognition. It was an almost natural step for us to join the Italian Apitherapy Association and create the first Apiario del Benessere® in Sicily, a place dedicated to the fabulous bees that we wish to introduce with all its benefits to many people of all ages.”
